Significance of Vijaydashami
“May you be victorious on this auspicious day of Vijayadashami.” Today, lord Rama killed Dassanan, and to celebrate the victory, the effigies of Ravana are burned all over India on this day. We all are also trying to be victorious like lord Rama for ages, but after burning so many effigies of Ravana, the evil within us does not disappear. So what is the answer to reach the bliss state of Rama when our mind is still stuck with the charm of the Gold found in Srilanka? The answer lies to look in the Vedas to find the symbolism of Dussehra. Our Vedas say that the truth is not other than the Braham – also called Sat Chit and Anand – universal consciousness and Bliss. Our purpose is to discover this bliss within us by burning the ego that keeps us attached to the body and the mind. But we first need Hanumanji to burn the lust for gold and materialism. Ten heads of Ravana represent lust, anger, delusion, will, pride, greed, mind, intellect, and ego. When Ravana is killed, even mind and intellect are gone and only the true self – Rama- is left. After killing Ravana, the mind is purified and tested in fire (Agni Pariksha). The kingdom of the body is now ruled by Vibhishan(devotion- ego is replaced with devotion). We can declare victory over ten senses (Vijay Dashmi)and return to Ayudha (the place without internal war).May you be victorious over your identification with the body and the sense objects!! This is the message of Vijay Dashmi!!
